Happy Thanksgiving

Uncategorizedadmin, November 24, 2010 @ 1:05 pm

MayflowerHappy Thanksgiving from your friends at Provo Community United Church of Christ.
Here are some good questions for this holiday:
Why would our congregation make such a big deal out of Thanksgiving?
The Pilgrims are one of the many roots our denomination has grown from.
Learn more about your Pilgrim Heritage.

Which Bible did the Pilgrims use?
Work on King James’ Version was started the year the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. It took til 1611. They had the Geneva Bible.
Hear more about that in the Rev. Daniel Haas’ Thanksgiving Sermon.

How does the Holiday Season unfold at PCC?
It all started with last Sunday’s Thanksgiving Service and there is so much to come. Please join us on Black Friday for the Lights On Parade.
Find out more about what’s going on in the Advent Calendar.

It’s never too late to jump on board and join us for any activity.
As the Native Americans lived it: You are welcome here!

UCC supports Utah Compact

Uncategorizedadmin, November 17, 2010 @ 10:57 am

The Utah Association of the United Church of Christ agrees with The Utah Compact and is encouraging its member churches to consider working with their members on issues of immigration. “The Utah Compact makes the voice of the still-speaking God heard on the issue of immigration. UCC churches all over Utah are open to people from all walks of life and from all ethnic backgrounds no matter what their immigration status. Please join us in signing this important document.” says Beverly Larsen, Moderator of the Utah Association of the United Church of Christ.

The Utah Association of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ is a regional body that ties together 10 congregations in Utah and a national denomination of 1.3 million members. A list of our Utah churches can be found here.

Ministry to Micronesians

Uncategorizedadmin, November 16, 2010 @ 11:00 am

Over the past few weeks we’ve had the Rev. Hodis Pedrus and his family join us in worship. He is a pastor of the UCC in Pohnpei, Micronesia. Their “Provo/Orem UCC” congregation of 20+ meets in their Provo home and they are looking for a better space on Sundays. Just as our own congregation, the UCC in Pohnpei was founded by congregationalist missionaries in the late 1800s. Here you will find an excerpt from “A PRONOUNCEMENT ON A UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST MINISTRY AND WITNESS WITH MICRONESIANS” to learn more about our historic relationship. Last Sunday, our church council has met with a delegation from their congregation and we have agreed to let them use the Meno Trope Hall during our worship time at 10.30 and then join us for fellowship hour. The relationship between our churches needs to be developed and we are looking forward to that.
