Monday, April 18th, 6:30
Passover was the reason for Jesus and his disciples to go to Jerusalem in the first place. This Jewish holy day and festival commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, which this year happens to begin the night of April 18th at sundown. Join us for a hands-on Passover study with soup, bread and bitter herbs. Tuesday, April 19th, 6:30
Lent is a seven week journey of self-examination and repentance; by prayer, intentional living, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word. Holy week is the culmination of this journey. Please join us in reflecting on its biblical foundation. Please RSVP on facebook.

Thursday, April 21st, 6:30
The Maundy Thursday service features a foot-washing rite and Holy Communion. This represents Jesus sitting down with his friends for the biggest holiday of the Jewish year to remember the people’s way through the Egyptian Desert. It starts out as a joyous occasion until Jesus announces that one of his friends is going to betray him. Drama unfolds as in everybody’s life. Sinners preferred, Saints welcome, too. There is no point in celebrating Easter without Good Friday. There is no resurrection without death. Yes, God himself experienced what death is. Our God is vulnerable and thus one of us. Come hear it and see it and get the chills! Please RSVP on facebook.

Our friends across the street at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church celebrate the Great Vigil of Easter. The Blessing of the New Fire, the Lighting of the Paschal Candle; the Recounting of the history of our Salvation in story and song, Holy Baptism and the First Eucharistic Feast of the Resurrection. There will be the 2011Community Easter Sunrise Service in the new Zions Bank building on the 8th floor. Enjoy the music of James Oneil Miner and One Voice Children’s Choir. When the rising sun is finally victorious over the dark night, when death is finally overcome, faithful people gather to listen, pray and sing the glory of Christ.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. As early as the fourth century, the church in Jerusalem began the custom of reenacting the entry of Jesus into the city. At the Mount of Olives, people gathered to hear the gospel passages about the triumphal entry. A procession then followed into the city. People held palm branches and sang, “Hosanna!” The tradition spread and has taken on many different expressions throughout the Christian church.
In Provo we are going to have the Palms blessed at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church across the street. The two congregations will then join for a brief procession through downtown, then split up and go to their respective houses of worship.

“Life is Different Now” and we all recognize that we can not return to doing and being church the way we used to do it. These days call for us to be most creative in our ministries. Whether advocating social justice issues, building communities, or befriending individuals, these days call for us to work from a strong and spirited center. They call for us to share what we know with each other. They also call for us to meet in the vulnerability of what we don’t or can’t know by ourselves.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Conference, the Rev. Pete Terpenning invites you to attend a very special Annual Meeting of the Conference, June 10-11. This is our once-a-year celebration of the Conference, a time to catch up on the happenings in our lives and churches, build community, to encourage one another in mutual ministry and challenge ourselves to move into the future with God and each other.

The board of directors, and staff, invite you to join with them for the 37th Annual Meeting of the Rocky Mountain Conference, on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Our theme is “Life is Different Now” and our guest facilitator will be Tenneson Woolf who will guide us through community conversations using the methodology of “Open Space” and “World Café.” This will be a lively and engaging gathering where your participation is welcome and appreciated.
