The holidays are about spending time with loved ones and eating together. Our loving church community opens their homes to all. On the four Tuesdays in Advent there will be appetizers at church, main dish at one home, dessert at another home and drinks back at church. Come eat, feel the love. It starts at 6:00 on November 29th, December 6th, December 13th and December 20th. Please be on time.
The most striking and the most universal feature of Christmas is the use of evergreens in churches and homes. Greens such as cedar for royalty, fir and pine boughs for everlasting life, holly symbolizing Jesus’ death and ivy representing the resurrection are used. Join us for the hanging of the greens on Tuesday, November 22nd, at 6:30 pm.
Provo Community United Church of Christ is pleased to announce their Advent Calendar 2011. Join us for any or all of the activities. Everybody is welcome.
At the fall meeting in Green River Wyoming the newly-formed Intermountain Association decided to have a pulpit switch. This will give the churches a chance to get to know each other. On the 20th of November the Rev. Kirk Thomas from Kingsbury church at Vernal will be our guest pastor for the day. Daniel will be going to Vernal to preach in their church.
Right after church there will be our annual Thanksgiving feast. Please bring a dish to share.
Dear members and friends of Provo Community United Church of Christ:
Stewardship is not just for the end of our church’s fiscal year. It has never been just about money. Whether it is care for God’s creation, attention to our families and relationships, making the most of talents and skills, or being responsible and generous with our finances – it is all stewardship.
First and foremost stewardship means acting responsibly. This time of year it is customary to remind ourselves of the responsibility that we have for the numbers of our church. Back in January at our congregational meeting we created “Vision 2021” stating that “in 2021 our congregation shall be financially sustainable”. That means we acknowledge the fact that right now it is not. We have made a conscious decision to be a growing church that only takes in $50,000 per year but spends about $100,000.
This strategy has paid off: Both membership and Sunday attendance show a steady growth of about 30%. Sustainability should be reached at a membership of 100 and it looks like we will not even need ten years to get there.
That is why we ask you to help us keep this momentum going. Take pride in the ownership/stewardship of God’s household. We ask you to follow through with what we all agreed on with “Mission 2021” and add at least 10% to what you pledged and gave last year. Pledging helps your church to create a budget and it makes planning easier.
We cordially invite you to attend the worship service on Stewardship Sunday, November 13 at 10:30. If you are not able to join us on that Sunday feel free to send your pledge as you choose. Your friends at Provo Community United Church of Christ thank you for your support and wish you a blessed holiday season!
With blessings on behalf of the Stewardship Committee
